Meet the Doctor
Dr Elizabeth Fenske
DVM CVA CVMMP
Growing up on a small farm in north central Minnesota, Dr. Elizabeth found a love for animals early on. She was either caring for or playing with the cats and dogs or riding the horses. This connection to animals steered her towards a career in veterinary medicine. She graduated with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Minnesota . For almost 20 years, Dr. Elizabeth worked as a general practitioner in feline medicine. She was that happy, crazy cat doctor!
As time went on, Elizabeth felt that something was missing from her veterinary approach. Despite going to every conference, reading all the medical journals, absorbing the latest research, there were times when she felt that more could be done. Pain lingered. Anorexia could not be reversed. Lethargy worsened. Quality of life was not improving. Elizabeth realized that strictly approaching her patients from a conventional, or Western medicine, view was too limiting. It didn’t always address the whole patient. She felt there should be a better balance between Western medicine and something else….
With further investigation, Elizabeth realized that this balancing act was Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM). She enrolled at the top TCVM university in the nation — The Chi University in Florida. Elizabeth has since successfully completed two certifications. She has earned her CVA—Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist and her CVMMP— Certified Veterinary Medical Manipulation Practitioner. She also has completed extra course work in advanced acupuncture techniques and is currently working on certification on Chinese herbs and Tui Na (Chinese bodywork).
When Dr. Elizabeth isn’t advancing her education, she is often found spending time with her husband and two daughters in a home full of cats! She loves to walk her two miniature schnauzers at local parks, cheer for MN Twins baseball, carve LOTS of Halloween pumpkins, and eat everything at the MN State Fair.
